Name comes from Latin nudus (naked) and Greek brankhia (gills), referring to their exposed, feather-like gills.
Over 3,000 species exist worldwide, ranging from 4 to 600 mm in size.
Possess rhinophores (sensory organs on their heads) used for taste, touch, and smell, along with simple eyes that can only discern light and dark.
Move on a large muscular foot similar to land slugs
Many species can incorporate stinging cells from their prey into their own bodies for defense against predators.
